Standard silage gravel bag
To ensure that the silage is correctly stored, it is essential to maintain silo airtightness, to prevent the fermentation gases from escaping and the air from getting in. It is also necessary to prevent any pollution with earth, stagnant tyre water, etc.
This small piece of equipment is easily pays for itself as it can be reused for several years.
Additionally, gravel bags are an effective way to control the level of cleanliness and the sanitary qualities of the silage.
Filling:
These bags should be filled with gravel or washed sand (not sea sand).
The bags must not be completely filled to make room for changes to sand volume (frost and hydrometric variation).
Use:
Closed silo: arrange the gravel bags all around the perimeter as well as on the transverse strips every 2 to 3 m depending on the height of the silo.
Open silo (face): place the gravel bags in 2 rows, 20 to 30 cm apart. This ensures that the clamp is perfectly sealed when transferring (moving the first row behind the second).
Storage when not in use: Gravel bags are best stored on a pallet to facilitate handling when picking them up and to shelter them from the sun to delay ageing.
